Living in Guadalajara

Experience the quality of life in Guadalajara, Jalisco:

Living in Guadalajara is to reside in Mexico’s second largest city, in the central region of the state of Jalisco and in the western-Pacific area of Mexico.  Guadalajara is located about 115 miles from the country’s western seacoast.  While in 2010, the population of the municipality of Guadalajara was 1,494,134, the number of inhabitants of the entire metropolitan zone stood at 4.4 million.  The Guadalajara metropolitan area includes the surrounding communities of Zapopan, Tlaquepaque, Tonala, El Salto and Tlajomulco de Zuñiga.

Guadalajara is home to numerous music and art festivals.  The city hosts the Encuentro Internacional del Mariachi.  This is an eclectic Guadalajara event.   Mariachi bands from around the globe play before knowledgeable audiences and jam with other musicians. The International Encounter of Mariachi ends with a vibrant parade, showcasing the talents of thousands of mariachis and 'charros' (or Mexican cowboys) throughout downtown Guadalajara.

The city of Guadalajara is also home to the Fiestas de Octubre, which is Guadalajara's month-long party event, showcasing various cultural and artistic events - such art exhibits, musical and sporting events, as well as folkloric activities.   Other events taking place in Guadalajara throughout the calendar year include The Guadalajara International Book Fair and the Aniversario de la Ciudad.  Guadalajara, founded in 1542, celebrates its birthday, or “aniversario,” every February with a 7-day series of government-sponsored events, traditional festivals and live concerts. A city-wide marathon, called the Guadalajara International Marathon, first occurred in 1984 and has since become a yearly tradition.

The State of Jalisco has a well-developed educational infrastructure. There are 16 colleges and universities as well as several technical institutions in the region. Some of the most recognized institutions located in the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara include the University of Guadalajara, the Tec of Monterrey, the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and La Salle University.

Manufacturing in Guadalajara, while enjoying its many amenities, enables executives to establish their maquiladoras in Mexico in a setting that is conducive to productivity and a safe, relaxed and cultured major city lifestyle.
